Heritage Open Weekend

Sat, 11 Sep 2021 10:00

Weedon's history became entwined with soldiers and their families when the Ordnance Depot was built here in the early 1800's. The last military personnel left in 1965, but look closer and you will find some who have remained!

Who were these men?

For the first time their stories are revealed.

Saturday 11th September 10-3pm

Sunday 12th September 11-4pm

Come and explore the military burials in the churchyard, on a

self-guided walk, and discover their histories

View memorials in the church

On display inside will be an exhibition about their lives and service, including military artefacts

Who served in Wellington's army?

Who excavated caves in Gibraltar whilst on military service?

Who rode in the Grand National?

Intrigued? Come and visit, we'll answer all these questions and more!

Find out about soldiers' diets through the ages, from foraging to rations, you may be surprised at what they ate and drank, some examples of which will be available to taste for yourself.

Friendly guides on hand to introduce the history of the soldier's buried here.

Refreshments available.

Village Show

Sat, 11 Sep 2021 14:00

We are delighted to confirm that we plan to bring back our

traditional Weedon Bec Village Show this year. As you might expect the actual set up of the Show might not be quite as usual pending any remaining covid restrictions still in play come September. We are going to plan for business as usual but please understand that there may have to be changes made right up until the last minute (but let's hope not!).

Whilst it was really disappointing not to have the full Show last year, it was brilliant to see how many residents got involved in our virtual fun last September and again in December. We had a really great turn out from regular exhibitors and also from first timers! We would love for you all to come and exhibit your amazing work at the 2021 show.

The judges will be back and the prizes, not least our best in show awards which you can take away and display in your home for a year's worth of bragging rights. So, get baking, jamming, knitting, sewing, painting, drawing, growing, creating, writing and arranging and more. Anybody can enter with so many different classes to choose from.

We had some great entries from our more junior residents in the virtual shows, please, please get involved again, we'd love the chance to see your work for real. There are some extra prizes for our junior winners too, but don't tell the grown ups! Look out for our programme which will be delivered with this newsletter.

We can't wait to welcome you all to the Show, both those taking part or enjoying the outputs from Weedon.

Hopefully, restrictions permitting, we will have our usual drinks and home cooked cakes for you to buy and enjoy. And who is excited about the return of the end of show Auction, with a chance to buy some of the produce?

And finally, we hope to launch the Weedon Bec Cook Book at the Village Show, we have already gathered a marvellous amount of recipes, with more promised before the deadline at the end of May; don't forget any money raised from sales of the Cook Book will be supporting the local foodbank.

Get involved! Keep this wonderful Weedon Bec community tradition alive!
